Retention basin and wastewater pumping station | A3 highway
A3 is a major motorway in Romania connecting Bucharest with Transylvania, spanning over 650 km and serving as a crucial transportation link.
The project
The design of the highway determined that stormwater from the highway should not be discharged into the public sewer system. With this in mind, the general contractor, STRABAG, decided that all the rainwater from the motorway should be collected in 2 retention tanks and then pumped to 2 above-ground collectors.

The Outcome
The project involved the installation of a 600m³ Weholite tank battery, comprised of two 300 m², buried 6m deep polyethylene retention tank, which was highly challenging due to its location underneath two high-voltage power lines.
”Uponor and GB Instaplan complement each other’s know-how. From our first meeting, we knew that their solution would be the perfect choice for this application. The unique advantages of the Weholite system mean we will definitely consider it for future projects and strongly recommend it to all investors, designers and contractors, too.
